Duplicate game mode
In duplicate mode, every player gets the same rack each round and plays from the same board position. Equal letters, equal chances.
What is duplicate?
In a standard game, luck matters because players draw different letters. In duplicate, the letter draw is shared. Everyone searches for the best move with the same letters, and one shared board moves forward after each round.
How each round works
- At the start of the round, every player sees the same rack and the same board.
- Each player submits one move before the turn timer runs out.
- The highest-scoring submitted move is placed on the board.
- Each player keeps the score for their own submitted move.
- Then a completely new rack is drawn for the next round.
Scoring
- Your round score is the score of your own submitted move, even if another move is placed on the board.
- The board is built from the highest-scoring submitted moves.
- Normal letter and word bonus squares still apply.
Why it feels different
- There is much less luck: equal letters means equal chances.
- Long-term strategy does not play a role: on every turn, everyone looks for the highest-scoring possible move; you do not need to think about saving vowels or opening/blocking spaces for later turns.
- You can compare your move directly with the moves found by other players.
- It rewards board vision and vocabulary more than tile draws.
When the game ends
Duplicate games end automatically when there are not enough tiles left for a new full rack, or when only consonants remain.
