FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

The basic rules of Wurdian are similar to those of many other word games - such as Scrabble, Wordfeud, and Words with Friends - but with various interesting twists. See the next item for more details.

Wurdian follows the basic rules of classic word games but adds several important twists:

• A unique bonus game mode
• Choose to play with or without a timer
• One free swap per game
• A more balanced distribution of jokers
• A more balanced end game calculation
• An feature to look up word definitions instantly during gameplay

Many of players have indicated that these differences make Wurdian a more flexible and rewarding experience compared to other word games.

We currently offer the following languages:

English, Dutch, Swedish, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, Norwegian, Afrikaans, and Frisian

More languages will be added in the future. Just drop us a note if you're favorite language is currently not supported and we'll see what we can do.

There are certain rules that determine whether a word is allowed to be played in Wurdian.

Most words are allowed, but - just as in Scrabble - so called 'proper names' are not allowed (names of persons and brands, geographical names, etc). The reason is that it is impossible to create and maintain a list of such names, because there are many millions of them.

Yes! You can do so by tappnig the 'check' button while all your letters are on your rack.

You can then type the word you would like to suggest and tap the suggestion button at the bottom of the screen.

We try to process all word requests within 48 hours.

A bingo is a move in which you play all 7 letters. You get 45 bonus points for each bingo.

In games with this bonus type enabled, players receive additional points for playing long words: the longer the word, the higher the bonus!

This unique feature is by far the most popular game mode in Wurdian. We recommend to try it out if you haven't don so yet!

Each player can swap some or all their letters for free once per game.

This unique feature makes Wurdian a more balanced game than many other word games. In Wurdian, an unlucky draw from the tile bag does not automatically mean that you will lose!

The “final round” starts when one player has no letters left. All other players get one more turn before the game is over. The first player to finished their letters gets 25 bonus points; each other player who manages to finish their tiles in the final round gets 10 bonus points.
Players do not receive score subtraction based on letters left on their rack at the end of the game.
This makes for a more balanced end game that doesn't 'punish' players for drawing an unplayable Q in their last turn.

There are two ways a game can end. First, if one player has no letters left, all other players get one more turn and then the game is over. Second, if one player passes twice in a row and all other players also passed, the game is also over.

The first player to finish their letters receives 25 bonus points. Any remaining players will then get one more turn before the game ends and will get 10 bonus points if they manage to empty their rack too.

When you time out, you will automatically pass on that turn and the time for your next turn will be halved (24 instead of 48 hours). If you time-out twice in a row, this further halves to 12 hours, etc. The reason for the halving is that it will speed up the game considerably if your opponent decided to stop playing entirely.

Yes! If you tap on a word on the board, the app will look for definitions on Wikipedia and Wiktionary and show you the results in a pop-up. This feature is currently available in only some of the languages, but we are working hard on getting it to work in all languages.

No of course not. Bots are annoying.

Wurdian uses an AI-powered filter to reject inappropriate profile pictures. Unfortunately, the filter sometimes also rejects perfectly fine pictures. If that happened to you, simply send and email to info@wurdian.com and we will fix it for you.

Some players use external tools to help them find words to play, which some other players perceive as 'cheating'.

This is a common problem in word games which we can’t prevent. If you suspect that your opponent is playing in a way that you consider inappropriate, we recommend to block that opponent. You can still finish the game, but a blocked player cannot invite you for a new game or join tournaments that you are hosting.

Please be aware that it is difficult to distinguish cheaters from really good players. A player that makes great moves is not necessarily a cheater!

Wurdian can be played for free, but then you will regularly be presented with an ad.

To get rid of the ads, you can buy a premium (see Account -> Premium).

Payments are handled entirely through the Google Playstore and Apple App store.
